Abstract
This study examines the impact of discipline on organizational performance at Akwa Ibom State University, focusing specifically on adherence to institutional regulations, staff punctuality, ethical behaviour, and employee commitment. The research addresses concerns regarding the decline in institutional performance, which has been linked to weakened disciplinary practices, ultimately affecting efficiency and productivity. Drawing on Travis Hirschi’s Social Control Theory (1969) and the Theory of Organizational Behavior, the study explores how discipline influences organizational success. A survey research design was adopted, targeting a population of 1,049 staff members, including both academic and non-academic personnel. Using Taro Yamene’s formula, a sample size of 290 was calculated. Data were collected through structured questionnaires using a four-point Likert scale and analyzed with SPSS version 24. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between adherence to institutional rules and university performance (r = 0.815, p < 0.01). Similarly, staff punctuality and attendance were found to have a substantial impact on performance (r = 0.948, p < 0.01). Ethical conduct was also identified as a significant factor influencing performance (r = 0.861, p < 0.05), while employee commitment showed a strong relationship with organizational success (r = 0.735, p < 0.05). Based on these findings, the study recommends stricter enforcement of institutional policies, enhanced monitoring of staff punctuality, the introduction of ethics training programs, and initiatives aimed at strengthening employee commitment. These measures are expected to improve organizational efficiency and academic output. This research contributes to existing knowledge by providing empirical evidence that discipline is a critical driver of institutional effectiveness and offers valuable insights for university administrators in developing policies that foster a disciplined and high-performing work environment.

Abstract
This study investigates the critical role of interpersonal communication between doctors and patients in managing disease within the Ibarapa East Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. The research emphasises the significance of effective communication in improving patient outcomes and adherence to treatment plans for chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Despite the known benefits, the study highlights communication barriers that hinder effective patient engagement. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 400 patients at healthcare facilities. The findings reveal that patients generally possess a good understanding of their health conditions and treatment options. Additionally, effective communication strategies employed by healthcare providers, such as establishing rapport and using clear language, significantly enhance patient satisfaction and compliance. The study identifies areas needing improvement, particularly in non-verbal communication and the provision of educational materials. Statistical analysis demonstrates a moderate correlation between effective doctor-patient communication and successful disease management, with approximately 42.1% of variance in patient outcomes attributed to communication practices. This underscores the importance of healthcare providers receiving training in effective communication skills, which encompasses both verbal and non-verbal interactions. Furthermore, the research highlights the necessity of creating patient-centred healthcare environments that encourage active patient participation in management decisions. Recommendations include implementing ongoing training for healthcare providers, improving access to healthcare services, and enhancing patient education programs. In conclusion, this study establishes that enhancing interpersonal communication is vital for optimal disease management. By prioritising communication strategies, healthcare systems can empower patients, leading to improved health outcomes and overall quality of care.

Abstract
This study critically examines Functionalism and Aestheticism as frameworks for literary analysis, assessing their respective contributions, limitations, and applicability in understanding literary texts. Functionalism emphasizes the social, political, and moral dimensions of literature, considering texts as instruments for reflecting and influencing society. Aestheticism, in contrast, prioritizes artistic form, beauty, and autonomy, often detaching literary works from social and historical contexts. While each framework provides unique insights, relying exclusively on one lens results in partial and onedimensional interpretations. Functionalist approaches may overlook stylistic, linguistic, and imaginative qualities, whereas aestheticist approaches may ignore social, cultural, and ethical relevance. Through a qualitative and comparative approach, this study analyzes selected literary texts, including works by Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, applying both frameworks to demonstrate their strengths and limitations. The analysis reveals that an integrative or eclectic approach, which combines Functionalist and Aesthetic perspectives, offers a more comprehensive understanding of literature as both an artistic creation and a social document. By highlighting the interplay between aesthetic sophistication and social significance, this study underscores the value of multi-dimensional literary criticism and contributes to contemporary debates on the purpose of literature. The findings have implications for literary scholarship, teaching, and postcolonial studies, advocating for critical approaches that balance artistic appreciation with social awareness.

Abstract
Jump convergence is an expression of the quality of ocular convergence at play when binocular visual focus moves quickly from a distant target to a near target in a jump/phasic motion. It is also known as saccadic or phasic convergence and is regarded as a measure of the adaptability and reflex control of the binocular vergence mechanism. Jump convergence ability is vital in binocular vision assessments and it is of critical importance as a training protocol in rehabilitative vision therapy. Practically, the demand for jump convergence closely mirrors typical viewing situations where fixation is continually shifting between near and far targets, making jump convergence ability important for everyday tasks. This study assessed the jump convergence ability of a sample size of 170 young adults aged 16 – 30 years, within the Imo State University, Owerri campus, in order to determine normative values of jump convergence among young adults with normal binocularity. The jump convergence for each participant was assessed using the test target of size N6 and the results were analysed by descriptive statistics to determine the normative value of jump convergence for the age group. The mean jump convergence for the sample size was determined as 39.58 cpm (std. dev = 8.241), 40.13 cpm (std. dev = 8.51) for the male and 39.03 cpm (std. dev = 8.06) for females. The study concludes that the normative jump convergence among the sample size is 39.58cpm (+8.241) and recommends further studies on normative values for jump convergence among young adults of other extractions.

Abstract
Throughout pre-colonial Africa, communication technologies have played an important role in determining the capabilities and limitations of political players and the process of bringing political change. With the advent of digital communications, narrative of governance across the globe, Africa inclusive continues to witness transformation. In Nigeria, the role of digital platforms has continued to impact the electoral processes. Nigeria’s democratic transition has witnessed massive use of social media, digital communication tools by electorates, contenders and contestants since 2015. Thus, this study investigates the function of digital revolution (social media) and the changing narrative of electoral processes in Nigeria. It adopted the cognitive mobilization theory of Russell Dalton which posits that the interplay between political participation, education and enlightenment plays a crucial role in shaping political awareness, driven by psychological factors inbuilt in human characteristics. Through the use of quantitative research method, 250 respondents in Jos, Plateau State, were sampled for the study via the adoption of random sampling technique. Data was collected through questionnaire. Five-Point Likert Scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Strongly Disagree, Disagree and Don’t Know was adopted. Results indicated among others that social media significantly enhanced the participation of Nigerians in the 2023 general elections. The study thus recommends for increased usage of the social media and the strengthening of online communication forums in Nigeria during election to realize its full potentials.

Abstract
Stand-up Comedy is an art in which a comedian performs by interacting directly with an audience. It has been in existence since classical Greek and Yoruba monarchical history. It was not regarded in Nigeria as a serious art until the emergence of Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome (Ali Baba) in the early 1990s when it transformed into an industry. Existing literature on Stand-up Comedy have focused on the historical perspectives, performer’s delivery and business management, with little attention paid to stage aesthetics. This study, therefore, investigated the stage aesthetics of Ali Baba’s Stand-up Comedy, with a view to documenting his contribution to the entertainment industry in Nigeria. Henri Bergson’s theory of laughter was adopted, while ethnographic and case study designs were utilised. Participant observation was used during 2018 Ali Baba’s spontaneity series. The researcher watched Ali Baba’s January 1st Concert and purposively selected audio-visual recordings of Ali Baba’s shows from the 1990s when he came into comedy business till 2021. The study found that Ali Baba’s appearance on the Nigerian comic scene ushered in a radical transition and transformation of Nigerian Stand-up Comedy into an innovative and economically empowering industry. The success of Ali-Baba’s Stand-up Comedy business depended significantly on branding, packaging and marketing strategies. The study further revealed Ali Baba’s Stand-up Comedy as an experimentation of the concept of socio-aesthetic harmony, marrying aestheticism with functionalism. This essay concludes that the success story of Nigerian Stand-up Comedy is incomplete without mentioning the stage aesthetics of Ali Baba’s Stand-up Comedy.
